Challenges
- Performing a large-scale assessment of around 20,000 documents and forms, including 1,100 critical documents in PDF, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel formats as well as material in several languages – including Bengali, Arabic, and Urdu
- Identification of the core documents and forms needing accessibility remediation to ensure LBHF met the demands of both the PSBAR and Government Digital Services (GDS) mandates
- Establishing a workflow for new document production that would allow council departments to produce “born accessible” documents and forms
Impact
Working with codemantra was easy and straightforward. They quickly grasped our brief and scope of the documents we needed to remediate. We were especially pleased with the speed and efficiency they showed in delivering the work so we could meet the deadline of the GDS audit.

Result
- A WCAG-compliant website, with accessible public-facing forms and documents, improved content accessibility across the borough
- Accessible workflows were introduced into the council’s day-to-day content operations to produce “born accessible” material
Solution
The codemantra team addressed LBHF’s near-term accessibility compliance obligations and its longer-term accessibility ambitions by integrating the production of accessible documents into the council’s regular content workflows using codemantra’s proprietary platform, accessibilityInsight. The AI-powered app’s intuitive and powerful features gave the LBHF staff control over the production and assessment of accessible documents, rather than them having to rely on third-party agencies.
