codemantra Receives Accreditation from Benetech’s Global Certified Accessible™ (GCA) Program

BOSTON – codemantra U.S. LLC recently received a prestigious accreditation from Benetech’s Global Certified Accessible (GCA) Program.  The GCA program is a formal process of evaluating a digital book to ensure it incorporates all of the accessible features required to meet the needs of students unable to read standard print due to blindness, low vision, dyslexia, or disability.  Benetech’s program is the first of its kind and confers on vendors, who meet the criteria of providing accessible publications, an official “stamp of approval”.

Through a combination of our AI-based accessibilityInsight platform to remediate digital documents and our subject matter experts to write alt text, we were able to successfully meet all of the criteria for Benetech’s certification,” stated Ian Smith, Director of Accessibility Solutions and Services at codemantra.  “Our accessibility line of business continues to grow each year and publishers are seeing the benefits of making all of their textbooks, journals, and other publications fully accessible.

The urgency with which publishers supply accessible textbooks is driven in large part by the liabilities these institutions face for inaccessible content.  In addition, the global COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the need for publishers’ content to go online and be accessible to all students.  Journal publishers are also finding it necessary to deliver accessible content to higher education institutions and journal delivery platforms.

“Vendors who pass our certification process meet very high standards for making publications fully accessible for everyone,” stated Michael Johnson, Director, Content Partnerships at Benetech.  “Publishers and content creators can partner with codemantra trusting the high level of efficiency and care taken to ensure accessibility compliance using their accessibilityInsight platform.”
